Commercial Gas Services for the Whole County
Leicester itself has its own page. This one is about the rest of Leicestershire: the market towns, the logistics parks on the motorways, the food producers, the university town of Loughborough and the hundreds of smaller businesses in between.
The county sits at the centre of the motorway network, with the M1, M69 and M6 within reach and East Midlands Airport on its northern edge. That is why some of the largest distribution parks in the country are here, and why heating very large buildings is such a large part of our work.
What Commercial Gas Work Do We Take On in Leicestershire?
Warehouse Heating
Radiant tube and warm air heating for the sheds at Magna Park, Bardon and along the M1, with high level pipework sized for every heater firing at once. See commercial heating systems.
Gas Installation
New and altered pipework in steel, copper and buried PE for factories, food producers and new commercial buildings. See commercial gas installation.
Testing and Purging
Strength and tightness testing to IGEM/UP/1, direct and nitrogen purging, and written records. See gas testing and purging.
Catering, Certificates and Repairs
Kitchen pipework for pubs and restaurants, annual inspections, and emergency repairs at any hour.
The Towns and What They Need
Loughborough
A university, a large engineering and pharmaceutical presence, and a busy student hospitality trade, with campus plant rooms, laboratories and kitchens.
Lutterworth and Magna Park
One of the largest distribution parks in Europe, where a heating failure in winter affects hundreds of staff and a shed cannot stop for a contractor.
Hinckley, Melton Mowbray and Market Harborough
Food producers, engineering firms and market town hospitality, often in older buildings with pipework that has been altered many times.
Coalville and Ashby
Logistics, quarrying and building products, covered in more detail on our Coalville page.
Planning Work on a Live Site
A distribution centre or a food factory does not stop for gas work. We plan alterations for quiet shifts, split larger jobs into sections that can be isolated, altered, tested and purged in turn, and work under the site permit system. Where the pipework has too few isolation valves, adding them during one job makes every later job easier.
Many larger sites in Leicestershire have several buildings fed from one meter house by buried polyethylene mains. New sections are tested before the trench is closed and purged so that the rest of the site stays on.
Food Producers and Market Town Kitchens
Melton Mowbray is known for its pies and its cheese, and the county around it has bakeries, dairies, snack producers and ready meal factories that use gas for ovens, fryers, boilers and dryers. These are large supplies on sites that work long hours, and alterations are planned for shutdown weeks and quiet shifts.
When a line is added or an oven is replaced, the first question is whether the existing main can feed it. We measure the connected load, check the pipe sizes, and extend or upgrade the supply where it falls short, with isolation valves so that one line can be worked on while the rest keeps running. The altered pipework is strength tested, tightness tested and purged, with nitrogen used on the larger mains.
At the other end of the scale, the pubs, restaurants and hotels of the market towns need kitchen pipework sized for every appliance running together, an emergency isolation valve staff can reach, and the interlock between gas and extraction that the catering standard calls for. Many of these buildings are listed, so flue positions and fixings to the frontage may need consent from the district council.
Why Contractors Across the County Choose Us
We work only on commercial and industrial gas systems, and we are Gas Safe registered under number 568617. We are used to main contractors’ programmes and estates teams’ record requirements. We work seven days a week and quotes are free.
Emergency Cover Across the County
If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first. They make the supply safe but do not repair pipework or appliances inside your premises.
Our emergency engineers cover the county at any hour. We trace the leak, repair it, then test and purge the pipework so that gas can be restored.
Compliance, Seven Councils and Cadent
The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 require employers to keep gas pipework and appliances safe. An annual inspection is the accepted standard.
Outside the city, Leicestershire County Council is the highway authority for the whole county, so excavation in an adopted road or footway needs its consent. Planning, including listed building consent, is handled by the district or borough council for the area: Charnwood, Harborough, Hinckley and Bosworth, Melton, North West Leicestershire, Blaby, or Oadby and Wigston.
Cadent operates the gas distribution network in the East Midlands and handles new supplies, larger meters and disconnections, directly or through your supplier.
Postcodes We Cover Across Leicestershire
We cover every LE postcode: Hinckley (LE10), Loughborough (LE11 and LE12), Melton Mowbray (LE13 and LE14), Oakham (LE15), Market Harborough (LE16), Lutterworth (LE17), Wigston (LE18), Enderby and Narborough (LE19), Ashby-de-la-Zouch (LE65) and Coalville (LE67), as well as the city itself.
We also cover the neighbouring counties and work across the UK, so coverage is not limited to Leicestershire.
